She Did it Anyway

In honor of Women’s History Month, this is the perfect time to reflect on the power of women, don’t you think? We are equal parts strong warriors, empathetic caregivers, and fragile beings.

As far as we’ve come, it’s often still a challenge to keep up with all that goes on in our lives, to overcome challenges and realize our goals.

Sometimes it seems just too damn hard.

Here is a bit of inspiration.

Overcoming Obstacles Begins with Overcoming the Largest Obstacle

And what is that, you may ask? It is YOU. Whether you realize it or not, there are times when you just cannot get out of your own way. We as professional women tend to have odd relationships with ourselves, full of contradictions. If you are not getting the outcomes you want in life, it’s proof that you don’t exactly know how to manage your life in a way that gets results. Deep down you know this, but it’s tough to confront it. You accept your own failure because part of you wants to maintain the image of who you are vs. who you could be instead of taking action and changing.

Why is it that? Because change involves humility, surrender, and acceptance. It’s a tough pill to swallow. The moment you accept that you need help, that maybe you should listen to that one wise person (which could be your intuition) and let go of the need to stay in your comfort zone, the world opens up to you. It is true that you do not have control over everything. But the one thing you’ll ALWAYS have control over is your attitude and the way you respond to difficult situations. This, my friends, is freedom.

When the Obstacles Seem Too Much

If you have a specific goal in mind, it may seem overwhelming at first. How the heck do I get there? It seems insurmountable with obstacles. But break it down into small, actionable steps, and look at it as a challenge to be savored. Deconstruct those obstacles; understand their true essence. When you do that, those obstacles lose their power. Yours is not a magic formula for success. Ask yourself what you’ve been successful at before? Then take what you’ve done to the goals you’ve met, apply them to your current goals, and run with it. Are you afraid to do something?

Well, do it anyway. See what happens. That’s all the motivation you need. You’ve overcome obstacles before, how is this any different? Truth is, you wouldn’t be where you are today if you didn’t overcome a pretty healthy series of obstacles already. As you push forward, you’ll no doubt get rejected. But what is rejection? Rejection is simply an interpretation of an event. No one really rejects you, it is you who feels rejected. Having the right mindset can be an amazing thing.

Put Negative Self-Talk Out to Pasture

Learn to question not only your future obstacles but your negative self-talk narrative. When negative thoughts pop up (and they will, often) nip that sucker in the bud. Ask yourself, “What is this? Is this negative thought really true?” Odds are, you’re BS-ing yourself. Deep down, you know this. What are you afraid of? Other people judging you? Oh, they will. People may tell you,

“There’s no way you can pull this off. “

“You’ll run into a lot of resistance.”

“You’re just wasting your time.”

You know what? If you want it, do it anyway. What’s really in your way? Do yourself a favor and tackle that obstacle right now. Follow that goal. Never waver. You’ll get there.
